How to Create Your Perfect Pendant Light
Your perfect pendant is just a few clicks away. Ready to try it out? Let’s go!
1. Identify Your Requirements
Customizing your ideal pendant light with Viro is simple. From our Shop page, you can choose from a variety of silhouettes designed to suit different settings and purposes. Consider these common use cases when selecting your pendant light:
Task Lighting
Illuminates specific areas such as kitchen islands or workspaces with focused, functional lighting.
Ambient Lighting
Enhances the overall atmosphere of a room with diffused light suited to the room’s purpose. Soft, warm ambient light is often preferred for living and dining spaces, while bright, cool temperature light is ideal for kitchens and other workspaces.
Accent Lighting
Highlights architectural features or art to create visual interest and depth within a space.
To guide your customization journey, also think about your vision for your pendant light:
Functionality: What purpose will the pendant light serve? Is it for task lighting, ambient lighting, or purely decorative?
Style: What is the existing décor style of your room? Modern, traditional, industrial, or eclectic?
Scale: The size of your light should be appropriate for its intended space. How large is the room and/or the surface area where the pendant will hang?
Ready? Let’s start customizing!
2. Choose Your Metal Finish
The socket and canopy finish is the starting point for your pendant design. You’ll want to select a finish that either complements the existing hardware in your space or introduces a new accent for visual interest. Viro offers three popular finish styles for these components:
Satin Nickel: A polished look that adds a touch of modern sophistication. It’s a versatile choice that blends well with various design styles while maintaining a refined appearance.
Antique Brass: A warm, luxurious finish that exudes elegance and opulence. Its rich tone adds a classic and inviting feel, perfect for creating a statement piece in your decor.
Matte Black: A bold, contemporary color that adds striking contrast and a modern touch to the pendant. Its deep, dramatic hue makes it a standout choice for a chic, minimalist look.
3. Select Your Smart Bulb Style
Each Viro order comes with a free smart bulb that’s both dimmable and color tunable. The shape of your bulb can influence the pendant’s visual impact and overall aesthetic. Viro offers three bulb options:
Tube: A sleek, modern look.
Globe: A timeless, classic design.
Edison: A vintage, nostalgic touch.
4. Shade and Glass: Shape, Size, Color and Beyond
Now it’s time to consider larger components for your fixture. Will it shine best with a spun metal shade, a blown glass diffuser, or a combination of both?
Spun Metal Shades
If your space needs a larger scale fixture, a metal shade is a great option. The shape, size and color of your metal shade will create the overall look and silhouette of your pendant.
Viro offers three metal shade styles, each available in 16” or 24” diameters:
Napa features a traditional cone shape that directs light downward, creating a focused beam.
Orleans offers a pleasing dome shape that also focuses light downward
Boston provides a shallow silhouette, allowing light to emit both downward and to the sides.
Marfa is a modern disc shade that is configured exclusively with a bare-bulb.
Each metal shade is offered in three popular finish combinations:
Brass with White Interior: Offers a warm and elegant appearance with a bright, reflective interior.
Black with Gold Interior: Provides a striking contrast and a luxurious, warm glow.
White with Gold Interior: Combines a clean, classic look with sophisticated warmth.
Blown Glass Diffusers
If you prefer diffused light to the look of an exposed bulb, we’ve got you covered. Viro offers three versatile blown glass diffuser styles:
Echo: A classic round globe style that provides a traditional look.
Como: An oval glass with a sleek, elongated shape.
Mono: An oval glass with a horizontal perspective, offering a modern, streamlined appearance.
Each glass tyle is available in these colors:
Clear: Provides an unobstructed view of the bulb.
White: A softer light that minimizes visibility of the bulb.
Smoke: A subtle color tint that adds a touch of sophistication.
The Viro website lets you view and combine different glass diffusers with metal shades in real time to create your perfect look. Of course, if you prefer a bare bulb look, you can simply select “None” for the glass option.
5. Column or No Column? That is the Question.
Viro gives you the option to adorn the base of your pendant cord with a decorative 6”H column in a choice of metal or natural stone materials. This ‘finishing touch’ provides an additional opportunity to nod to other materials or design elements in your space. Select the column material that best aligns with your design vision:
Natural Stone: Travertine, Black Marquina, or White Carrara offer a luxurious, timeless appearance and a pleasing contrast to the metal components. It’s an ideal selection for kitchens and dining spaces.
Metal: Satin Nickel, Antique Brass, and Matte Black metal options can complement or contrast with the fixture’s other metal elements, or nod to surrounding finishes in the space.
Accent finishes on either end of your decorative column add a layer of stylish detail. When you select your column material, you’ll see accent options in Satin Nickel, Brass or Black to match or contrast with the other finishes on your pendant.
Voilà! And just like that, your perfect pendant is created!
The true beauty of Viro lies in its curated selection of designer-quality components that can be effortlessly mixed and matched using our intuitive online configuration tool.
